Bronchoalveolar Lavage / Tracheal Lavage

Tracheal Lavage / Bronchoalveolar lavages can be collected and analysed to help differentiate allergic / environmental / infectious / parasitic problems associated with the respiratory tract. Samples are routinely analysed for cytopathology and culture.

When sending in samples please adhere to the following:
  1. Culture Samples - submit in a plain tube not containing any anticoagulant and ideally should be submitted to the Centre within 24 hours of collection and if possible kept chilled.
  2. Cytopathology - samples should be submitted in EDTA containing tubes, ideally glass if available or if not plastic. A minimum volume of 3ml is required. Sampling bottles can be provided on request.
