Billions of bacteria inhabit the horse’s digestive tract and, collectively, these bacteria are referred to as the gut flora and are essential for the maintenance of gut health and optimal nutrient absorption. A healthy gut flora also plays an important role in immunity and prevention of certain diseases. The equine gut flora can be adversely affected by many factors, including stress, illness, parasitic infection, antimicrobial treatment and changes in diet. Protecting the balance of the gut flora, between beneficial and harmful bacteria, is vital for the well being of your horse.

A probiotic is a solution that contains beneficial gut bacteria, most often commercially produced in liquid or powdered form. The IEC has been involved in gut flora research for the past 20 years and, through our extensive research, we have identified the beneficial bacteria which can be harvested from freshly cultured faeces to produce an autogenous liquid probiotic which contains beneficial bacteria harvested from your horse’s own faecal sample. Unlike commercial products, the beneficial bacteria in this autogenous probiotic are unique to your horse and can help to restore the balance of gut flora following any adverse events. This solution contains ONLY your horse’s own beneficial bacteria suspended in sterile water and NO other additives. Using ProSol over a period of 20 days we have seen improvements in the health and condition of horses where a gut imbalance
had previously been diagnosed.

Using cryopreservation, the IEC can store each horse’s beneficial bacteria in a secure bank for the duration of the horse’s life, providing a safety net for the owner. In the case of an adverse event in the gut, e.g. antibiotic treatment or parasitic infection, the IEC is able to retrieve the stored bacteria and quickly formulate a ProSol probiotic for your horse.

ProSol is a probiotic solution and aftercare service created by the IEC which contains live beneficial bacteria harvested from the horse’s own faecal sample. Each unit of ProSol is made specifically for each horse making it a unique and novel product.

Why use ProSol?

Healthy gut flora plays a major role in immunity and prevention of disease. Protecting the balance between beneficial bacteria and harmful bacteria is vital for the well being of the horse. A horse cannot consistently perform to the best of its ability with a gut flora imbalance.

Following 20 years of extensive gut flora research, the IEC has been able to identify, sensitivity test, isolate and harvest the beneficial bacteria required to balance the horse’s gut flora.

ProSol can regain the balance of the gut flora where tests show an imbalance. Causes of gut flora imbalance include antibiotic treatment, stress, intensive training, diet, viral infections and parasites.

Bacterial Storage Service

This storage service uses a cryo-preservation approach and offers a safety net for the lifetime of the horse in case the beneficial bacteria cannot be harvested in sufficient numbers from a subsequent faecal sample. Your horse’s beneficial bacteria will be stored at the IEC for future use (e.g. after the horse has had a course of antibiotics).

Prosol’s Ingredients

ProSol contains only the horse’s own beneficial bacteria suspended in sterile water. It is administered orally to the horse each day with a large dispensing syringe supplied by the IEC.
