Quality Assurance

The IEC is one of Ireland’s most accredited Biology, Veterinary and Chemical testing laboratories and was first awarded the International Standard of Accreditation ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing laboratories) from the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) on the 5th April 2004. The IEC undergoes an annual inspection process by INAB in combination with external inter-laboratory and proficiency testing programs.
The IEC staff participate in various proficiency testing schemes throughout the year that are supplied by independent bodies including, VETQAS APHA, AUNIR, LABEO, ANSES, AORC and LGC.
The IEC is committed to providing world-class service and continual improvement of its Quality Management systems to ensure customer satisfaction. A separate and wholly independent quality assurance department is maintained at its premises which ensures the laboratories maintain strict adherence to best practices in quality assurance. This team provides support to all Units at the IEC through the management of quality systems, training, and auditing.
The Microbiology, Virology, Environment & Nutrition Units obtained ISO17025:2017 Accreditation for a wide range of tests, which meet the specific and defined requirements of customers. These laboratories continue to extend their Scope of accreditation annually.
Details of the IEC’s extensive scope of accreditation is available on the INAB website  www.inab.ie  under the registration number 151T.
